This Dallas based Texas Swing band has just released this fantastic twelve tune CD of classics done with precision and class. All but one tune, the classic from the Duke Ellington Band, Take the 'A' Train are vocals. Jim Turner, the rhythm guitarist and Jon Stutler the sax and clarinet player, handle all the vocals. Dale Morris, Jr plays an awesome fiddle, Nathan Phelps is the bassist and Patrick Bubert is the drummer. David Wright treats us to his steel guitar on the Hank Thompson classic, A Six Pack to Go. Milo Deering treats us to his steel guitar on Old Fashioned Love and A Maiden's Prayer, both from the Bob Wills hit parade. Randy Wills plays piano and Steve Curry treats us to some wonderful lead guitar playing on the pop standard from the Margaret Whiting library, Moonlight in Vermont and Cindy Walker's Goin' Away Party, also from Bob Wills.
The remaining Bob Wills classic redone by this super group is Cindy Walker's Sugar Moon. Others borrowed from the pop music world are Irving Berlin's Blue Skies, Oh, Lady Be Good from the Gershwins and Gordon Jenkins' Blue Prelude. The final two gems are Willie Nelson's Night Life from the great Ray Price and the standard, St. James Infirmary.
This CD can be obtained from itunes, Amazon or direct from Jim Turner, 3802 Indian Springs, Arlington, TX 76011. The cost is $18. which includes shipping.
