Solitaire Miles, a wonderful Chicago area jazz and swing singer has just recorded and released this fantastic album of 12 Western Swing standards. She also surrounds herself on these vocals with seven very talented musicians. Neal Alger plays super lead guitar and TC Furlong plays dynamite steel guitar. The hot swing fiddle player is Stuart Rosenberg with Eric Schneider playing sax and Tom Hope behind the piano. The rhythm section features Larry Kohut on bass and Phil Gratteau, the drummer.
The album opens with the first of three terrific Cindy Walker compositions, from the Bob Wills hit parade, I Hear You Talkin'. Also from Cindy's pen are Me and the Man in the Moon and with huge hit potential, Love is a Lingering Thing. Also from Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys is Fred Rose's Hang You Head in Shame. Other gems include Floyd Tillman's I Gotta Have My Baby Back, Ted Daffan's I'm a Fool to Care and two from the great Spade Cooley band with a young Tex Williams on vocal, You Can't Break My Heart and Crazy Cause I Love You. Also included is a recent tune, Blue Lonlies with the same great sound of the classics and an enjoyable Solitaire and Neal duet on the classic Kay Starr/Tennessee Ernie Ford duet, I'll Never Be Free. Also reprised is the Stan Jones masterpiece that was a hit for Vaughn Monroe, Peggy Lee, Sons of the Pioneers and so many others, Ghost Riders in the Sky. The final tune is borrowed from the country music world and the pen and hit parade of Lefty Frizzell, Cigarette and Coffee Blues.
This album can be obtained as a CD at CD Baby, itunes, and Amazon and that also includes mp3's.
