This is a brand new CD of 14 tunes put together by Cowboy Joe Babcock and many of Nashville's top musicians. Joe's roots in Western and Western Swing Music go back to his days in Marty Robbins' band and to the Hee Haw TV show. This album took almost 20 years to complete and the musicians vary from tune to tune. 12 of the tunes were written by Joe with the other two wonderful standards from the Bob Wills library.
There are over 20 big name musicians on this album featuring the steel guitar playing of Doug Jernigan, Curly Chalker, Hal Rugg and Sonny Garrish. The fiddle players are Hoot Hester, Jim Buchanan and Tommy Williams. The lead guitars are those of Jimmy Capps and Leon Rhodes. There is also a bassist, pianist and drummer which include amongst others, Danny Davis, Henry Strzelecki, Pig Robbins, DJ Fontana and Willy Ackerman.
The album opens with the theme, Cowboy Joe's Good Medicine Show and closes with an interesting Reprise. The two standards are Bob Wills' San Antonio Rose and Jesse Ashlock's Please Don't Leave Me Anymore. The Joe Babcock originals include By My Side, Smoky Clubs and Dizzy People, She Got Religion, A Little Sentimental and The Stratocaster Song. Joe also wrote four Texas dance hall tunes that are included, No Way to Go But Down, I Know that She Loves Me, One More Memory to Go and I Think I Fell in Love Again Tonight. Also included from Joe's pen is the gem Everything's Gotta Swing in Texas.
The album can be obtained on CD Baby, Amazon, or www.thebabcocks.com. It can also be ordered from Cowboy Joe, P.O. Box 681292, Franklin. TN 37064. Cost is $15.
